Getting rid of scars are usually allied with big money operations that most average Joes think only moneyed individuals can manage to pay for. While it is indeed true that these expensive procedures are some of the most effective scar removal options available to us at this time, it is not something that is available to most people especially those who make up the mid-income segment of the population. The good thing is that there are a bunch of alternative routes that the mid income person can take.

But before we get into these effective scar treatment options fit for those with limited budget, let us first research the methods being falsely peddled as cheap methods but in reality are not effective at all.

There are a bunch of OTC products and procedures that may be acquired in the market today but most of them do not show any scientific proof of their efficacy.

Creams based on vitamin E – there are literally a host of products out there that are based on vitamin E and claim to do some good in the fight against scarring. Unfortunately, though, scientific facts point to an unfavorable proof that these products are not effective in what it claims to do. Furthermore, they may even cause bad effects in that they could cause allergic reactions about 30% of the time. One benefit that vitamin E provides is that it is a good moisturizer but it does nothing to help get rid of scarring.

Products based on onion extracts – there are products in the market that present scar reduction solution through the use of onion extracts. One such product is known as Mederma. However, studies have shown that these products are no more favorable to scars as any petroleum lubricant that you can buy in any grocery or drug store. Studies have shown that it does nothing to reduce or heal scars but the good thing is, compared to vitamin E creams, onion extracts based creams does not cause allergic reactions.

Other products based on natural ingredients such as cocoa butter, aloe vera, lime juice, cucumber are similarly being sold out there to be a substitute solutions to scarring problems but neither of them have been tested clinically to prove their claims.

But other options are available, products that contain silicone as one of its ingredients, either in silicone sheets, gel or cream and they have demonstrated superb performance in treating scars especially for severe cases like keloidal and hypertrophic formations. Fortunately, there are clinical trials to back this up and as such, this form of scar treatment has been suggested as the best in removing or improving scars.

Silicone gel, creams or sheets are great due to the fact that they do not involve knives and lasers and are totally painless. They are also way cheaper compared to cosmetic surgery. The silicone treatment approach is even better when it is performed in the early stages of wound healing and is ideal for burn cases.

Good scar treatment doesn’t have to be painful and expensive as its surgical alternatives because there are more convenient, cheaper methods available that are backed up by scientific proof to be effective and beneficial.

Before you buy any scar cream products in the market you have to do some research first. There are, literally, countless products in the market out there that are bogus.
